The United States total population in 2009 is about 301,600,000 plus.  California dwarfs all other states with 36,553,215 but more than 1/4 of California or 9,878,554 people live in Los Angeles County, which is to say that LA county alone has a population greater today than 42 of the 50 states in the USA.  And as you know, LA and nearby Orange counties are made up of hundreds of separate cities and into those cities are coming a huge share of new immigrants from nations on six contents, what I have been known to call 'God's human zoo'.  It is there in Long Beach in south LA County that Kingdom Causes began only a few years ago to connect and facilitate an amazing network of local churches and other grass roots organizations.  I've been all over their website and know some of their leaders personally.  It is hard for me to imagine a more significant time, place or method for facilitating 'signs of hope' together with the long term transformation of cities to the Glory of God and for eventual migrant stream impact around the world.

Kingdom Causes is about the work of advancing the Kingdom of God in the only way possible--by mobilizing Christ-followers who are no longer satisfied with living for themselves, to incarnate their lives among the poor, working to transform individual lives and under-resourced communities.  This is exactly what CCDA advocates for in cities throughout our nation, and I strongly support your efforts to see God's Shalom become a present reality throughout communities in California and beyond.

It's one thing to sit in your living room and look at pictures of alligators in National Geographic.  It's another thing to be waist deep in swamp water in Florida.  So many of our churches today have turned inward and tend only to our flocks within, paying no mind to the world without or even fellow Christian churches in the community.  Kingdom Causes invites all the churches in a community to join hands in our outreach to the unsaved, unacceptable and those living on the margin.  It is Christ's heart beating in all of us, and it serves as our collective conscience.  It challenges us to jump in, attempt to drain the swamps, and tackle the alligators rather than to fold our hands, cling to our comfort zone, or rest on our past laurels.

I have had the pleasure to closely observe the work of Kingdom Causes for the past 5 years.  Being a life-long community developer, I have great appreciation for those organizations who truly believe in incarnational ministry, with a holistic approach to God's work in our cities.  Brad Fieldhouse, Mary Glenn, and the Kingdom Causes team truly exemplify the best of God's work in the city.  Their loving, sacrificial and prayerful ministry touches the hearts of those they reach in ways that are glorifying to our Lord, and precious to His Kingdom.  I am honored to call them friends, and co-laborers in the harvest.

In Jeremiah 29, the children of Israel were told to seek the peace of the city.  The network of leaders across the Southern California region that comprise Kingdom Causes are the embodiment of this.  I have had the pleasure to work with various leaders within this wonderful organization.  They all possess a passion to impact the cities in which they live through building of relationships and serving as catalysts for change and partnerships.  Kingdom Causes is a wonderful organization uniquely structured and focused to serve the needs of the city.

There are communities of exclusion by virtue of poverty in almost every city in the Nation.  The people who live there are isolated and poor.  The residents are locked in a prison perpetuated by a host of personal, social and systemic causes.  I appreciate how Kingdom Causes network of partners is transforming these communities.  KC partners live among the people, the discover what their neighbors dream about and long for, they empower them to take control of their lives and neighborhoods.  KC partners encourage and organize neighbors to work together in increase their ownership in their communities.  KC partners organize their neighbors to name unjust laws, ordinances, and service omissions that oppress them; then they form alternative, just solutions that improve their capacities to have a more abundant life (like the rest of us). They harness neighbor power (active citizenship) to overcome their isolation and to achieve what they need.  KC connects Christians and churches in appropriate, encouraging, supportive ways.  The full redemption story is visible, talked about and lived out.  People respond to God and His amazing restoring love.  KC partners bring the values of the kingdom to bear through humble service with their neighbors leading to community transformation.  I have seen it in Bellflower, in Costa Mesa, in Long Beach, and I know it is happening in many other communities.  Kingdom Causes is a force for transformation.

What a joy it has been to get to know the Kingdom Causes city teams and to see the wonderful fruit of their prayers and obedience.  I appreciate their dependence on God for strategy and their outflow of love as they re-present Christ to their communities. Cities are strengthened and transformed because the KC teams have said yes and have stepped out in united, loving action.   They also have seen the value in assessing as they go; thus staying true to their calling and focus. It is a joy to know them and to walk with them as we encourage one another for the glory of God.

Kingdom Causes lives into the cause of the Kingdom by engaging city stakeholders and resources in a supportive and collaborative fashion to transform cities holistically.  I have been impressed with the conviction of its staff and leadership to re-weave and strengthen the networks of relationships across all sectors, not for its own viability, but truly for the welfare of the city and its inhabitants.  In my experience with Kingdom Causes, it is an organization of high integrity, vision and commitment.  As such, every city can benefit by partnering with Kingdom Causes.
