What exactly is a Golf Marathon?
It is an incredibly fun event that will raise some serious bucks needed to help advance the Kingdom Causes Mission in our cities. It is a way for golfers, both duffers and low-handicappers alike, to rally their support while doing something they really enjoy - or are willing to do for a good cause - playing golf. When compared to a traditional tournament, golf marathons are more fun and more profitable.
Will the golfers really play 100 holes in a day? Is it possible?
Yes & yes
How does it work?
We are playing real golf on a real course, but several changes in the format of the game are made in order to speed up the play. First of all, we have rented the entire course, so there is no need to worry about outside golfers. The marathon is played as a personal best-ball scramble. For example, on each hole a golfer would hit 5 balls off the tee and then pick-up their four worst shots and bring them to where their best ball lies. From that spot they will hit all 5 balls again. This pattern is repeated until they make it into the hole or they have 2 over par for the hole. When finished, this is counted as 5 holes played.
Can anyone play?
There are actually two answers to that question.
First of all, yes. This event is really about more than just golf. Duffers, 4x-a-year players and semi-pro folks are all welcome. For those of you who know how to play, this is a GREAT chance to work on your game on a good course. For those of you that are new to the game, (and you won't be the only one out there!), you will simply focus on surviving the day.
Secondly, no. The only people who will be able to play on October 12th are those golfers who have registered in advance.
What will be the schedule of the day?
6:45 am - Light continental breakfast and course orientation
7:30 am - Shotgun start
11:30-12:30 pm - Swing through the clubhouse for lunch
2:30 pm - call it a day having completed 100 holes!
There is no program at the end of the day and you are free to go once you have hit your 100 holes!
What are we providing for our golfers?
A light continental breakfast, snacks, water, and lunch are provided. We will also provide each golfer with golfballs to use for the day. We might be able to hunt down some clubs for you as well, if this is the only thing keeping you from playing!
What would I be commiting to as a golfer?
- Give the day to come out and play
- Sponsor yourself a minimum of $1 per hole ($100)
- Raise additional sponsorships of $24 per hole
The goal is to give your best shot at raising at least $25 per hole per golfer for a total of $2,500. Our overall goal is to raise a minimum of $75K in this effort by enlisting 32 golfers to join us!
How difficult is it to raise the additional $24/hole in sponsorships?
Not as hard as you might think, especially when they catch a glimpse of the exciting things in which Kingdom Causes is involved! The fundamental theory behind this fundraiser is that anyone you ask will sponsor you at least once if it is for something that YOU BELIEVE IN. Once you sign up, we will provide you with helpful information for raising sponsorships.
Where does the money go?
Even though this is a joint effort of our city teams, all of the money that is raised by golfers will be directed to the city for which they are golfing. For example, if someone decides to golf and raise sponsorships for San Dimas, then all of the money that they raise will go to Kingdom Causes Dimas.
Are the sponsorships tax-deductible?
Yes. Kingdom Causes is a registered 501c3 organization (# 57-1162424) . Sponsors will receive written acknowledgement of their tax-deductible donation in the mail.
