Homeless Hospitality Teams Forming in Local Congregations
Over the past couple of years the Homeless Task Force of Kingdom Causes Long Beach has equipped and trained representatives from over 25 local congregations on how to engage the cause of homelessness in our region. Our conviction is that the Church has an important role to play!
A key way that we are currently serving this population is through the Long Beach Connections
effort. This is a grassroots community engagement initiative geared
toward helping develop coordinated responses to address homelessness.
Our current goal is to get 12-35 profiled and fully supported
individuals off of the streets and into an apartment. This will
provide them with a foundation for safe, healthy and productive days
ahead. 7 people have already been placed and the 8th will be placed in
the next couple days!
Here is where YOU come in! For each individual that will be
housed over the next 4-6 months we are needing to identify a team of
people who would be willing to be their transitional support team as
their apartment is readied for their arrival. The apartment and the
funds to cover it will already be provided so what is needed is to fill
the apartment with furniture and household items to make it a home. We
need teams of people to basically hunt down (Craigslist, etc), ask for
donations and even possibly purchase a detailed list of basic items.
Would you or your congregation like to be a part!? Has your
congregation been looking for a way to be a part of helping to make a
tangible difference in someone's? If so, come and join us.
Here are the details for our upcoming informational meeting.
When: Thursday, November 19th
7:00-8:30 PM
Where: Kingdom Causes Long Beach Office (map)
Once these teams are formed we will provide them with basic
training and then link them directly to an individual once they are
identified. All of the specific details will be answered at this
informational meeting.
